Westhampton College Scholarships

The Westhampton College alumnae are pleased to announce that applications are being taken during spring 2014 for the following scholarships for Westhampton College students for the 2014-2015 academic year.

To apply, complete the standard online application. If you would like to include a résumé with your application, please forward to to Carolyn Martin at cmartin@richmond.edu.

Applications should be completed by Friday, March 7, 2014, at 5 p.m., EST. The recipient will be notified by the Office of Financial Aid via letter in June 2014.

Your application will be considered for all scholarships for which you qualify; you only need to complete one application. The award for all scholarships may be divided among several recipients, and final determination of the award amount will be made by the Office of Financial Aid.

About the Scholarships

Class of 1935

The Westhampton College Class of 1935 Scholarship was established in 1985 by members of the class as a special gift honoring their 50th Reunion. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving Westhampton College student. Priority may be given to a student who is a Virginia resident.

Estimated of annual award: $8,770 (May be divided among two or more students)

Class of 1941

The Westhampton Class of 1941 Scholarship was established by the members of the Class of 1941 as a special Reunion gift to Westhampton College. First priority of selection will be given to Westhampton students who are the descendants or relatives of the members of the Class of 1941; second priority will be given to those related to any Westhampton College alumna.

Estimated amount of annual award: $21,420 (May be divided among two or more students)

Catherine Bell Scholarship

The Catherine Bell Scholarship was established by the Class of 1971 in honor of Catherine Bell, who served Westhampton students as a faithful teacher and beloved registrar for many years. The scholarship offers financial aid to Westhampton College students with demonstrated financial need. It is required that the applicant have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher and demonstrated financial need.

Carole M. Johnson Scholarship

The Carole M. Johnson Award was established in memory of Carole Johnson, Westhampton College Class of 1961, by alumni, family, and friends. At the time of her death in December 1962, Miss Johnson was a teacher at Hermitage High School in Richmond, Virginia. The Carole Johnson Scholarship recognizes a woman of character and faith who exemplifies unselfish service to others; potential for future contribution to the local, national, and global community; leadership in extracurricular activities; academic achievement; and strength of personality.

Jane Stockman Reunion Scholarship

The Jane Stockman Reunion Scholarship was established in 1986 and named in 2000 in honor of Jane Stockman, who retired as Executive Director of Alumni Affairs after 27 years of service to Westhampton College and the University. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving Westhampton College student. Priority is given to a daughter or granddaughter of an alumna.

May L. Keller Scholarship

The May L. Keller Scholarship was established in 1976 by the Westhampton College Alumnae Association to commemorate the centennial of Miss Keller’s birth, September 28, 1877.  Dr. Keller was Dean of Westhampton College from its beginning in 1914 until her retirement in 1946. Her commitment to academic excellence for women formed the basis of this scholarship. The scholarship may be awarded to a rising senior of Westhampton College who has demonstrated contributions to campus life and whose cumulative grade point average is 3.6 or higher. While the scholarship is intended to recognize academic excellence, a student’s demonstrated financial needs may be taken into consideration.

WC Alumnae Richmond Club Scholarship

The WC Alumnae Richmond Club Scholarship was established in 1981 by the Richmond Club of the Westhampton College Alumnae Association.  This scholarship offers financial assistance to a Westhampton College student from the Richmond, Virginia area.  Priority will be given to a daughter or granddaughter of a Westhampton College alumna.
