URAA Strategic Plan

Engaging the Spider Spirit
2009-2014

Mission

The mission of the Association is to promote and foster a dynamic, enduring and mutually beneficial relationship between the University of Richmond and its alumni; enlist and encourage alumni support for the University; sustain a spirit of excitement in our alma mater; and provide opportunities for alumni to connect with each other through meaningful programs and activities.

Goals

1. Strengthen the University of Richmond Alumni Association and University of Richmond's presence where our alumni live, work and gather.

2. Facilitate ongoing communication among alumni and between alumni and University of Richmond constituents.

3. Motivate alumni to give to the University of Richmond, be it their time, talent or treasure.

4. Motivate students to become active alumni community members before graduation.

Strategies

1. Support regional programming to drive greater alumni engagement and connection with UR on both a national and international level.

  • Work with the Office of Alumni and Career Services to ensure the regional initiatives program utilizes best practices and has the resources necessary to meet minimum requirements for supporting the programming.
  • Develop consistent communication and opportunity for collaboration among regional leaders and between URAA and regional leaders.
  • Commit that the Board will attend regional events in their home areas, serving as hosts when appropriate.

2. Establish a sustainable and well-coordinated communication strategy between and among alumni and the University.

  • Define and plan the types, sequencing and channel of alumni communications from both the University and URAA throughout the year, promoting the use of UR Online to alumni.
  • Assist the University with generating new content and features for University and alumni Web sites and portals and print publications, particularly content that celebrates fellow Spiders.
  • Promote the annual recognition of alumni via the Alumni of the University of Richmond Awards for Distinguished Service.
  • Update the Alumni Guidebook that defines the programs and services available to alumni.

3. Collaborate with the Vice President for Advancement and the fundraising staff to increase alumni participation.

  • Provide opportunity for alumni engagement through programming that provides consistency of giving and participation messages.
  • Define specific support that the URAA needs from the University and the Division of Advancement.
  • Assist with identification and cultivation of alumni with time, talent and treasure both regionally and internationally. Encourage alumni to alumni contact particularly when time, talent or treasure is being sought.
  • Assure 100 percent participation in the Annual Fund by the Board.

4. Connect and brand the alumni community with students and parents prior to their graduation.

  • Collaborate with the Office of Alumni Relations and University units to continue to deploy sustainable programs to familiarize students and their families with the importance of the UR alumni network and the value of being an engaged and informed alumnus/a.
  • Sustain the role the Board plays in New Student Arrival Day and other University traditions.
  • Develop additional opportunities for engagement with legacy families and involvement in the admission process.
